Explore Frequently Asked ENT Care Questions

When should I visit an ENT specialist?

You should consult an ENT specialist if you have persistent ear pain, hearing loss, frequent sore throat, sinus problems, nasal blockage, dizziness, voice changes, or a neck swelling.

Is hearing loss treatable?

Many types of hearing loss can be treated or improved with medicines, minor procedures, surgery, or hearing aids, depending on the cause. Early evaluation gives the best results.

What is an ENT endoscopy? Is it painful?

ENT endoscopy is a quick procedure that uses a thin camera to examine the nose, throat, or voice box. It is usually well tolerated and takes only a few minutes.

Why do I keep getting blocked ears?

Blocked ears may be caused by ear wax, infections, allergies, sinus problems, or pressure changes. An ENT examination can identify the exact cause.

Should I use cotton buds to clean my ears?

No. Cotton buds can push wax deeper and may injure the ear canal or eardrum. The ear usually cleans itself naturally. If wax causes symptoms, visit an ENT specialist.

What causes frequent nosebleeds?

Common causes include dry weather, nose picking, allergies, infections, high blood pressure, or blood-thinning medicines. Frequent or heavy nosebleeds should be evaluated by an ENT doctor.

Why do I snore?

Snoring can occur due to nasal blockage, enlarged tonsils, excess weight, or sleep apnea. Persistent loud snoring, especially with pauses in breathing during sleep, should be assessed by an ENT specialist.

Why is my voice hoarse?

A hoarse voice may result from a cold, voice strain, acid reflux, or problems affecting the vocal cords. If it lasts more than 2–3 weeks, an ENT evaluation is recommended.

Can dizziness or vertigo be related to the ear?

Yes. Many balance problems originate from the inner ear. An ENT specialist can diagnose the cause and recommend appropriate treatment or exercises.

How often should I get my hearing checked?

Adults with hearing concerns, excessive noise exposure, diabetes, or those above 60 years should have periodic hearing evaluations. Children should also be assessed if there are concerns about hearing or speech development.
